Sustainability Initiatives
Green buildings are not a luxury—and BCC is proving that low-income communities can not only be part of the environmental movement, they can be part of the global solution. We are breaking down barriers while helping community organizations maximize the alignment between their specific mission and environmental integrity.
Energy costs are skyrocketing—and often those who can afford the least pay the most. Why? Green technologies cost money to implement. A few simple changes can create substantial savings for apartment dwellers, assisted living establishments, and tenant associations. Yet implementing those changes takes capital investment and technological savvy. For many low-income groups, neither is easily accessed; BCC’s Sustainability Initiatives are designed to provide both.
BCC Solar Energy Advantage
BCC Solar Energy Advantage (SEA) is a third party owner of solar photovoltaic systems, primarily located on and serving affordable housing developments, municipalities and other organizations in low income communities. SEA stabilizes and reduces the host properties’ utility costs through long-term, fixed-price power purchase agreements. SEA is one of the largest non-utility owners of solar PV systems in Massachusetts, having generated over 5.9 million kilowatt hours of solar energy. SEA also coordinates BCC’s energy efficiency and conservation strategies.
