Susan Rivers brings deep communications expertise honed over a career spanning journalism, financial services and the nonprofit sectors. At Boston Community Capital she and her team work with BCC units to formulate an integrated branding and communications strategy promoting the organization’s new and existing investment initiatives and connecting it with national conversations about trends in community development, investment, financing, and public policy.
Prior to joining BCC, Susan served as Global Head of Corporate Communications at BNY Mellon Wealth Management where she led strategic internal and external communications, including media relations, executive communications, crisis communications and issues management. In addition, she initiated and played a key role in developing and implementing the Bank of New York Mellon Corporation’s groundbreaking social and digital media efforts.
An award-winning journalist, Susan wrote and edited for several major news outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, Newsday and the Baltimore Sun. Her past work with nonprofits includes serving as Vice President of Public Affairs at Roger Williams University, as Associate Director of Development Communications at Princeton University and as general manager of Al Manahil, a women’s cultural and educational center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
A graduate of Trinity University in Washington D.C., she is a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship recipient for her photodocumentary of rural villages in France, Ireland, and Quebec.
